Preschool Experience

Curriculum

Learning through play is an integral part of our educational and learning approach. We strive to engage children in meaningful, interactive activities to make learning the following subjects an enjoyable experience

  • Language Arts and Literacy
  • Math
  • Science, Technology, and Engineering
  • Social Studies and History

In addition to drawing our inspiration from the Reggio Emilia Approach, we align to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for PreK.

Our play-based approach to learning is supplemented by the following curriculum resources:

  • Scholastic My Big World
  • Lively Letters
  • Heggerty
  • Handwriting Without Tears
  • Slumberkins

Purposeful Play and Recess

We have an acre and a half of outdoor space that provides children with the opportunity to be physically active in activities they enjoy and are developmentally/age appropriate. Our Purposeful Play and Recess takes place outdoors, weather and temperature permitting.

We also have several indoor spaces that are designed to provide children with the opportunity to develop positive physical, social, emotional, cognitive, creative and moral growth.

Benefits of play-based learning:

  • Increases level of physical activity
  • Improves memory, attention, and concentration
  • Improves social and emotional development
  • Builds executive function skills, content knowledge and creative thinking
  • Builds connections to the world around them
  • Produces opportunities to expand thinking and try new things

Preschool Provocations and Centers

Guided play is the foundation for play-based learning. Guided play maintains the joy of free play while allowing children to meaningfully connect with content. These activities are child directed and teacher facilitated.

We guide and support children by intentionally creating engaging environments that

  • provoke exploration
  • promote discovery
  • encourage progress towards learning goals

We ask guiding questions and utilize open ended learning materials such as loose parts, wooden blocks, dramatic play accessories, and sensory tables to foster

  • critical thinking and problem solving
  • creativity and innovation
  • communication and collaboration
  • confidence and self-expression

"Play is not a serious break from learning, play is learning."
